President of the International Chair in Mathematical Physics and Applications — ICMPA / UNESCO Chair, Prof. Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou is an internationally renowned Beninese scientist, TWAS Fellow and 2016 C.N.R. Rao Prize laureate. He is recognized for his work in mathematics, mathematical physics and nonlinear systems. Within the SIRAGA Forum, he chairs the Scientific Committee and provides academic, scientific and strategic guidance for the Forum’s work.
Prof. Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou is a distinguished Beninese scientist, full professor of mathematics and physics at the University of Abomey-Calavi, and President of the International Chair in Mathematical Physics and Applications — ICMPA / UNESCO Chair.
Internationally recognized for his contributions to mathematics, mathematical physics, nonlinear systems, noncommutative mathematics and complexity, he is one of Africa’s leading scientific figures in advanced theoretical research and scientific capacity-building.
Elected as a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2004, Prof. Hounkonnou received the 2016 C.N.R. Rao Prize for scientific research, in recognition of the outstanding level of his mathematical research and his sustained commitment to mathematics education and training.
Through ICMPA / UNESCO Chair, he has contributed to the development of high-level scientific training, international research cooperation and the promotion of mathematical physics and its applications in Africa. The Chair has played a major role in supporting young researchers, strengthening scientific networks and connecting advanced theoretical knowledge to development challenges.
Within the SIRAGA Forum, Prof. Mahouton Norbert Hounkonnou serves as Chair of the Scientific Committee. His leadership ensures the academic credibility, scientific depth and strategic orientation of the Forum’s work, particularly on issues related to scientific sovereignty, advanced research, geospatial intelligence, technology, education, innovation and Africa’s long-term transformation.
